Marketing and Representation in Subtle Ways
In a time where social networking provides so much more than shared messages and photo uploads, Facebook has begun to target ads towards specific audiences via "like" and "check" in information provided by the network's users. This feature, brilliant by the way, allows competing businesses to feature news stories and ads targeted to the appropriate audience based upon the amount of "liking" and "checking" its fans or potential clientele participates in. Thus rewarding respective businesses for their cyber following. This article on http://pr.alltop.com/ covers some of the ploy in the PR industry to utilize the web as part of their marketing and networking strategy.

Michael Vick Story
Everyone knows the big story of Michael Vick dog-fighting and serving time in prison. But a little less known was the PR response to his release and rehabilitation. Animal rights activists were for the most part furious and upset and at the portrayal of media coverage concerning the matter. The felt that the spotlight on Michael's recovery overshadowed the brutal and heinous acts performed on the NFL player's dogs. The link following is an excellent source for interpretation.

Something helpful to understand PR
On the PR conversation blog page I found some interesting and helpful insights concerning the makeup and definition of what Public Relations really is.
David Phillips posts:
"Public relation is a discipline founded on an appreciation of citizen and institutional values. That is the base, the foundation, the elemental of the profession.
When we know this, all of the debates fall into place. Some parts of PR are the work of its artisans, some is the stuff of inspired intuition, some is process and some is founded on immutable PR laws stemming from the role of PR in identifying, espousing and managing the explication of values."
-On the same page a few posts earlier, Mr. Phillips insists:
"Given that we deal with the public and indoing so evoke a asocil relationship construct, it seems to me that it is not hard to understand That PR is about relationship management between groups of people."
His misspellings aside, I agree that PR is truly about the relationships involved with a particular body of work.

Insights and thoughts concerning PR related issues
This spring semester I plan on learning more about the PR responsibilities behind major political parties, professional sports teams, major corporations, and all other relevant causes and concerns wrought on by the mainstream and local media. I hope to get to know some of the more prominent Public Relation specialists. I plan to follow music PR stories in this blog because not only am I intrigued by it, but I hope to find a job in the music industry representing musicians.
